Tim Hamilton was already an established comedy / dialogue director when he directed and co-wrote Truth In Advertising, a scathing satire of the ad business. It showed in competition at Cannes, and become a huge viral video, before he knew what a viral video was. Then Hollywood beckoned. Tim was hired by Steve Martin to work on a strange sketch comedy show called the Downer Channel for NBC. This was followed by Mama’s Boy, a Warner Brothers feature starring Diane Keaton, Jeff Daniels, Anna Faris, Eli Wallach, and Jon Heder. He also developed a pilot for Truth In Advertising for HBO, with first Darren Starr, and then Buck Henry as show runner. Equally invigorated and frustrated by these experiences Tim dove back into the commercial world, doing tons of comedy commercials for markets in the US, Canada, France, England, Iceland, Ukraine, Russia, the Middle East, Kazakhstan (!) etc etc. In this capacity he has directed John Cleese, Jennifer Coolidge, Kristen Bell, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Bay, Fred Willard, Colin Mochrie, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Vincent D’Onofrio, Tony Shalhoub, Wanda Sykes, Mary Kay Place, Steven Wright, Thomas Middletich, Ben Schwartz, Rick Hoffman, Tom Green and on and on. Tim continues to balance commercials with his own long form work as a writer/director, shorts, tv work etc. These include The Second City Project (nominated for five Canadian Screen Awards including best direction). He lives in Toronto with his wife and three kids.
